Zhi Gao 高志

Artist Photographer Designer 艺术家 摄影师 设计师 

Chinese, born in 1993 in Inner Mongolia, China. Co-founder of the 2xG Art Group. 中国人,1993年出生于内蒙古。2xG Art Group联合创始人。

 

 

I live in the Inner Mongolia of the Northern China, where there are endless grasslands and Gobi deserts and clustered galloping horses and falcons. The unique living environment and images in my eyes have enabled me to ruminate and think over pictures and realism elements that I have seen since my childhood. My father’s business trips bring me many opportunities of witnessing a lot of shocked things: I was honored to see nomadic falconers on the grassland at the age of 10. The film camera creaked in my father’s hand. It’s the first time for me to indistinctly feel the wonderful relationship between realities and records. 我生活在内蒙古,那里有无尽的草原和戈壁滩,还有奔腾的马和猎鹰。我眼中独特的生活环境和图像使我能够反思和思考从童年开始就看到的图片和现实主义元素。父亲外出工作给我带来了很多见证新奇事物的机会:很荣幸在我十岁的时候看到了草原上游牧猎鹰的人。这是我第一次模糊地感受到现实与记录之间的美妙关系

 

I majored in the Visual Communication Design in my university. My university courses have laid a foundation for my photography learning during my postgraduate period. I have formed my own academic comprehensions of photography from sketching color and Visual Art Appreciating to Basics of Photography, Technique of Film-making. The reason why I want to learn the photograph specialty in the Royal College of Art lies in my photographic thinking generated by paintings during my university period: different from paintings, photography emphasizes its uniqueness on the objectivity at the radical level. In other words, photography is the primary form of this entity, which has gotten rid of time lapses. Some courses I select, such as the Western Philosophy, enable me to attempt to observe pictures and images from historical and philosophical perspectives and to form a deeper cognition. For example, I begin to be obsessed in the research on the “Ontology of Photographing Images” proposed by André Bazin due to photograph and art history courses. His academic ideas provide theoretical guides for my photographic comprehensions. 我大学主修视觉传达设计。大学课程为我在研究生期间的摄影学习奠定了基础。我已经从素描素描色彩与视觉艺术到了摄影的基础、电影的制作技术,并形成了我自己的摄影学术理解。我想在皇家艺术学院学习摄影专业的原因是我在大学时期绘画创作所产生的摄影思维:与绘画不同,摄影强调其在客观性上的独特性。换句话说,摄影是这个实体的主要形式,它摆脱了时间的流逝。我选择的某些课程,例如西方哲学,使我能够尝试从历史和哲学的角度观察图片和图像,并形成更深刻的认识。例如,由于摄影和艺术史课程,我开始沉迷于安德烈·巴赞(AndréBazin)提出的“摄影图像本体”研究。他的学术思想为我的摄影理解提供了理论指导。

 

During the postgraduate period, my main research direction lies in the demonstration manner established by the photography between human wills and the natural world. I’m interested in the “reconfigurability” caused by the natural world, the industrial society and human beings. When I graduated from my university, I shot a video and froze a series of unique pictures via an old camera, which was an exploration for my research direction during the postgraduate period. 在研究生期间,我的主要研究方向是通过摄影在人的意志和自然世界之间建立的呈现方式。我对自然、工业社会和人类造成的“可重构性”感兴趣。大学毕业后,我拍摄了一段视频,并用一台旧相机冻结了一系列独特的照片,这是我对研究生时期研究方向的一次探索。
